If you like to get out in the bush and explore then one of the most essential skills required is to know how to navigate with a map and compass!

Our one-day navigation course is designed to give you a hands on approach to learning how to safely find your way through the bush, using a map and compass.  Our instructors and guides are skilful navigators and are highly qualified and experienced in teaching this essential outdoor skill.  This course develops self relientance and confidence in

  • map types, use in the field, grid references, features, and contours
  • compass features, types, general usage, map bearings, field bearings, resections, and walking or hiking on a compass bearing
  • route planning, route selection, route cards, time and distance estimation
  • GPS features, operating functions, use and limitations; and
  • emergency navigation techniques using the sun and the stars.

After this course you will have acquired a new set of skills making you a confident bush navigator no matter where you go!

Exodus will provide:

  • equipment – map and compass
  • comprehensive instructional safety training
  • catering available if required

What you need to bring:

  • hat
  • long sleeved shirt if you have sun sensitive skin
  • closed in shoes for bush walking / hiking
  • sunscreen
  • water bottle
  • rain coat
